EXTREME SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN DIEGO CA
230 PM PDT MON JUL 9 2001
...SYNOPSIS...
THE MARINE LAYER AND ONSHORE FLOW WILL CAUSE NIGHT AND MORNING COASTAL
LOW CLOUDS AND FOG. OTHERWISE...DRY SOUTHWEST FLOW ALOFT WILL KEEP THE
WEATHER FAIR EXCEPT FOR SOME HIGH CLOUDS WEDNESDAY.
...DISCUSSION...
LOW CLOUDS/LOCAL FOG WERE INTO COASTAL AREAS AND MOST OF SAN INLAND
VALLEYS THIS AM...OTHERWISE CLEAR. 12Z NKX SOUNDING HAD INVERSION BASED
NEAR 1800 FT WITH SW WINDS ALOFT. ONSHORE GRADIENTS WITH 7-8 MB SAN-IPL.
SOME CU DEVELOPED OVER THE HIGHER MAINTAINS LATE THIS MORNING AND
AFTERNOON.
UPPER HI REMAINS OVER W-CENTRAL US WITH UPPER TROUGH OFF W COAST FOR AT
LEAST THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. THIS WILL MAINTAIN GENERALLY DRY SW FLOW
ALOFT. HOWEVER...ETA AND NGM BRING A WEAK VORT MAX AND ASSOCIATED RH UP
FROM THE SW LATE TUE INTO WED. PREFERRED AVN DOES NOT BRING ANY
SIGNIFICANT VORT MAX OR RH UP FROM THE SW. EVEN IF ETA/NGM DO VERIFY...
MOST OF THE RH IS ABOVE 500 MB SO WE SHOULD JUST GET SOME MID AND HI
CLOUDS. SLOW DECREASE IN LOCAL HEIGHTS. JUST MINOR CHANGES IN THICKNESS/
850 MB TEMPS...BESIDE THE USUAL DIURNAL FLUCTUATION. EXPECT LITTLE
CHANGE IN MARINE LAYER AND MINOR TEMP CHANGES OR JUST SLIGHT COOLING THE
NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS.
LONGER RANGE PROGS START OUT IN PRETTY GOOD AGREEMENT AND THEN DIVERGE
TOWARD THE END OF THE EXTENDED PERIOD. THEY STILL BASICALLY INDICATE DRY
SW FLOW ALOFT. NO JUSTIFICATION FOR UNWARRANTED DETAILS IN THE EXTENDED
SO WILL CONTINUE WITH LITTLE CHANGE FORECAST.
.SAN...NONE.
