High Wind in Alaska, December 1 to 2, 2001
Strong and cold high pressure near Dawson, Canada and across the Copper River Basin produced very strong, but localized outflow winds into the Gulf of Alaska. A computerized wind study, developed years ago, satellite imagery, Middleton Island radar information and profiler information near Glennallen helped determine when conditions would be ripe for the strong winds.
