An upper level disturbance brought precipitation to the region from mid-morning through midnight. Because temperatures at the ground were below freezing across much of the eastern panhandle, freezing rain fell during the morning and early afternoon. Scattered icy spots were reported on many roads, but conditions improved quickly in all but Grant County by afternoon as temperatures rose above freezing. Up to 1/2 inch of ice covered roads, trees, and metal objects in Grant County by late afternoon. Several accidents were reported on roads and bridges between Petersburg and Moorfield. By early evening, temperatures finally rose above 32 degrees in Grant County and brought an end to the frozen precipitation.
