A series of severe thunderstorms knocked down numerous trees, tree limbs and power lines throughout Berks County. About 7,500 homes and businesses lost power due to the high winds. Sinking Springs was hit the hardest with over half of the outages (4,465). Trees were knocked down onto Route 222 in Shillington Borough. In Albany Township, lightning and the ensuing fire forced a family from their home. In Lower Heidelberg Township, a woman was jolted by lightning when she touched an appliance in her Pine Street house.
