Gusty southwest winds spread across Eastern Pennsylvania during the afternoon and early evening of the 8th. Winds subsided as the sunset and a cold front moved through the region. Peak wind gusts reached between 40 and 45 mph and downed some weak trees and limbs. The worst damage occurred in Bristol Township (Bucks County). Dozens of homes were evacuated as pieces of plywood from a construction project on the Pennsylvania Turnpike were torn off. The 4 foot by 8 foot sheets tore loose and fell down on houses and yards. One house had three windows blown out and its chimney was wrecked. A fence was flattened and a playground set was damaged. No serious injuries occurred. Peak wind gusts included 45 mph at the Philadelphia International Airport, 39 mph at the Lehigh Valley International Airport, 38 mph in Pottstown (Montgomery County) and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Airport (Luzerne County).
