Damaging Wind in West Virginia, April 8, 2000
A cold front that crossed the Mid-Atlantic region during the afternoon of the 8th was accompanied by damaging winds. Showers that developed along the cold front produced winds in excess of 55 MPH over Berkeley Springs which resulted in severe wind damage around Williams and Independence Streets.

A cold front that crossed the Mid-Atlantic region during the afternoon of the 8th was accompanied by damaging winds. Showers that developed along the cold front produced winds in excess of 55 MPH over Berkeley Springs which resulted in severe wind damage around Williams and Independence Streets. Around 1:30 PM EDT high winds ripped off part of a mall's roof and sent debris flying into 10 parked cars and 2 surrounding buildings. One car with 4 occupants had the rear window smashed by debris, but remarkably no one was injured. One nearby building had an air conditioning unit blown off a windowsill. Three pieces of roof debris also penetrated a brick wall on a nearby building. One wooden board that entered the structure ricocheted off a door jam and became lodged in the ceiling.
