On the morning of December 17th, a strong cold front moved across Eastern North Carolina followed by a very powerful high pressure system. As the high pressure moved into the region, afternoon non-thunderstorm winds of 40 to 50 mph caused some minor damage to street lights and outdoor signs.

On the morning of December 17th, a strong cold front moved across Eastern North Carolina followed by a very powerful high pressure system. As the high pressure moved into the region, afternoon non-thunderstorm winds of 40 to 50 mph caused some minor damage to street lights and outdoor signs. Two boaters were lost that morning in the New River when their fishing boat capsized in the high wind.
