Record breaking snowfall occurred over much of Western and North Central Nebraska on Veterans day. A front formed northeast across Western Nebraska and set the focus for an extended period of snowfall which was heavy at times. A period of freezing drizzle initially produced a layer of glaze on roadways across the southwest. Then as snow developed northeast, roadways became snow packed. By 6:30 pm Interstate 80 was closed at the North Platte interchange west to the Wyoming stateline citing heavy snow and poor visibilities. Numerous accidents were reported with semi's jack-knifed, semi's rolled over, numerous accidents and cars off the road. Snowfall totals by 4 am on the 12th ranged from 4 to 15 inches with 10 counties receiving a foot or more of snowfall. The heaviest snowfall totals were 15 inches at Curtis (Frontier county), 14 inches at Mason City (Custer county), Broken Bow (Custer county) and Burwell (Garfield county).
