Heavy rain producing thunderstorms dropped 3 inches of rain on Crete in less than 1 hour with 3.75 inches falling in 3 hours. This caused flash flooding in the downtown Crete area with numerous businesses basements flooded. The flooding was in part due to a new storm drainage system that was not operating correctly according to newspaper reports.
