Damaging Winds in California, March 5, 2000

A squall line moving rapidily northeast across the coastal waters, crossing Orange and San Diego County and caused significant wind damage along the immediate coast. At Huntington Beach, a construction trailer was knocked over and a building damaged at the end of the Huntington Beach Pier. In Corona Del Mar a large oak tree fell on to two houses. Broken tree branches littered streets and Interstate 5 between Oceanside and Del Mar. In La Jolla, a fence was blown down. In Ocean Beach and along Sunset Cliffs, trees were uprooted and fell on parked cars. The impulse that triggered the orginal squall line continued to cause additional thunderstorm development as it moved further inland, across the Inland Valleys and Mountains and Desert areas. Frequent hail and heavy rain showers were reported later that morning and into the early afternoon.
