Lightning started a forest fire about 3 miles north of Bellemont (10 miles northwest of Flagstaff) on July 24. The Pipe Fire burned 600 acers of dense ponderosa pine. Air tankers, helicopters, and about 300 people contained the fire by the evening of July 27.
