A 996 mb Low in the eastern Tanana Valley combined with a broad area of High Pressure over the Arctic Ocean and cold arctic air from the north produced a strong pressure gradient and wind chills to 70 below zero, reported at the Remote Automatic Weather Station at Makpik Creek, in the Upper Noatak Valley.
