A strong upper level storm system moved out of the Southern Rockies and into the Southern Plains on the 14th. In response, low pressure rapidly deepened over Oklahoma during the day. A strong pressure gradient developed over the South Plains, the Southern Panhandle and the Low Rolling Plains with sustained surface winds of around 40 mph persisting for several hours. Wind gusts to 60 mph were recorded between 1445CST and 1600CST at the Lubbock International Airport and in Hart in Castro County. The strong wind removed the roof from a mobile home, snapped several power poles, blew down power lines, and uprooted several trees in Lubbock County. Large quantities of dust were lifted into the air reducing visibilities to less than one mile at times.
