Drought conditions persisted across northwest Pennsylvania as rainfall totals for the month of August were again much below normal. Only 2.77 inches of rain fell in Erie which was 1.29 inches below normal. Water use restrictions were instituted in many communities. The drought also greatly impacted agricultural interests. Crop yields in northwest Pennsylvania will be reduced by an average of 30 percent this growing season. Actual financial losses will not be known until after the fall harvest.
