A prolonged period of 60+ mph winds was endured across portions of northern Oklahoma during the early morning of the 28th. These strong winds lasted between 1 and 2 hours, and gusted frequently to near 60 mph. The highest wind gust of 85 knots (98 mph), was measured at 0646 CST at a local television station, 4 miles southwest of Ponca City in Kay County, where a television tower was bent, and sheet-metal was ripped loose.
