A strong cold front moved through New Jersey during the early evening of the 10th. The front was accompanied by strong gusty northwest winds. As a low pressure system intensified as it moved across northern New England into the Canadian Maritimes and a large high pressure system built east from the Northern Plains and the Great Lakes, gusty northwest winds continued throughout most of the night. The strongest wind gusts were in the northern part of the state, especially in the higher terrain of Sussex County. Peak wind gusts included 60 mph at High Point (Sussex County), 58 mph in Sparta (Sussex County), 51 mph in Hazlet (Monmouth County), 37 mph in Trenton (Mercer County) and 36 mph in Somerville (Somerset County).
