A lightning bolt just missed killing a Ruston woman but struck and killed her dog which leaning against her leg. The woman was under her carport when the incident occurred. Betty Hinton described the event as a big explosion right around her legs. She remembers falling to the ground thinking she was going to die. She stated she could see lightning off in the distance but didn't think it could strike her. She suffered scratches and burns to her body but was not hospitalised.
