Courtesy of Hurricane Floyd, September 1999 went down as one of the wettest Septembers on record in Delaware. The monthly statewide average of 10.13 inches was the second wettest September on record since 1895. On a county weighted average September monthly rainfall totals were 10.1 inches in Kent County, 10.5 inches in Sussex County and 13.0 inches in New Castle County. At the New Castle County Airport 12.68 inches of rain fell during September and was the wettest September of the 20th century.
