July 1999 continued the trend of extremely warm and dry weather across Delaware. The state mean average temperature of 79.1 degrees for July 1999 was the third warmest July on record dating back to 1895. It also was the third warmest July on record at the New Castle County Airport with a monthly mean temperature of 80.0 degrees. July 1999 was also dry. The state average rainfall total of 2.06 inches was the 14th driest July on record as only 52 percent of the normal rainfall fell. The driest conditions were across New Castle County. The New Castle County Airport's July monthly total of 0.89 inches was the second driest July on record. On a county weighted average monthly rainfall totals ranged from 1.2 inches in New Castle County to 1.8 inches in Sussex County.
