Flash Flood, Etowah

Where: Etowah County, Countywide

Coordinates: 34.045, -86.035 (the zone’s center; the record gives no point)

Three to 6 inches of rain fell in a few hours mainly across southern Etowah County. The hardest hit areas included; Hokes Bluff, Glencoe, Rainbow City, and Gadsden. Numerous roads across the county were flooded with up to three feet of water and several roads were closed. Several homes had water flow into them and at least 14 families had to be evacuated. Several motorists were trapped in their vehicles and had to be rescued by the Fire Department. Numerous lightning strikes knocked out power temporarily across the area.
