Southwest winds pulled very warm air into southern Wisconsin, allowing some temperature records to be broken. Janesville (Rock Co,) recorded a new daily record high of 89, breaking the old one of 84. Milwaukee reached 88 degrees, breaking the old one of 86 set back in 1873. The city of Waukesha topped out at 89, breaking the old record of 83 set in 1973. September 1998 was the warmest September since 1971 in Waukesha. During the overnight hours, both Madison and Milwaukee only dropped to 71, which became a new record high minimums for those locations.
