The first heavy snowfall of the season for many locations in northeast Wisconsin occurred on January 8-9. Six to nine inches of snow was reported, with the heaviest totals falling in Florence and northern Marinette counties. Schools in numerous rural communities were closed, as strong winds whipped the new snow around.
