The James River began to flood in early April from Columbia south to around Stratford. The James rose to around 1.5 feet above flood stage at Columbia and Stratford during the month of April. Flood Stage at Columbia 11 west is 11 feet and it reached 12.6 feet on April 16th. Flood stage at Columbia 1 south is 13 feet and the stage reached 14.4 feet also on April 16th. Flood stage at Stratford is 14 feet with its highest crest occurring in May. The James River mainly flooded farmland, pastureland, and a few roads in the vicinity of the channel.
