Pre-frontal winds created by a moderate to strong pressure gradient between Prince William Sound and northwestern Cook Inlet reached gusts to 56 mph. similar to the Columbia Gorge conditions in Oregon.

Pre-frontal winds created by a moderate to strong pressure gradient between Prince William Sound and northwestern Cook Inlet reached gusts to 56 mph. These winds are mainly due to "gap" wind conditions....similar to the Columbia Gorge conditions in Oregon. To a lesser extent, "mountain wave" conditions probably contributed to the gusty winds. The gusty winds primarily affected east Anchorage (including the Hillside areas) and areas adjacent to Potter Marsh which is at the outlet of Turnagain Arm.
