The synoptic setting for this event included a surface trough located from the northeastern Texas Panhandle southwest into northern Eddy County, New Mexico. Surface Moisture values were relatively high with dew points in the lower to mid 60s on both sides of the trough. Storms initially developed in the high terrain of southern New Mexico, Far West Texas, and northern Chihuahua and then formed along the trough as well. Storms began primarily as single and multicell hail producers, but in the evening became a multicell line event with damaging winds.
