Severe thunderstorms developed along the dryline along the New Mexico/West Texas border and moved east- northeast over the South Plains during the late afternoon into evening producing dime- to quarter-sized hail and high wind. In Terry County, the Emergency Operations Center reported roof damage to mobile homes, along with trees and power poles down due to high wind. Sixty-five to seventy mph wind gusts over Lubbock County caused a cinder block structure under construction to topple in the northern part of the city of Lubbock at the Lubbock Country Club. The high wind caused damage at Lubbock International Airport where a 30 square yard section of the terminal building was blown off and numerous power lines were also blown down. The storms also caused one minor injury in Garza County where a truck driver had his unfilled 18-wheel truck blown off Highway 84. An isolated thunderstorm over the extreme southern Texas Panhandle produced small hail and strong wind that caused damage to crops in Hall County near the town of Memphis. Overall, approximately 100,000 acres of cotton were destroyed in Yoakum, Terry, and Hockley Counties due to small hail and strong wind.
