Strong gusty winds associated with a deep storm system just north of Lake Ontario buffeted the western Catskills from the early morning hours of the 6th until mid- afternoon. Many trees, power lines, and large branches were knocked down under the force of frequent 50 to 60 mph wind gusts. State and local officials estimated that nearly 10,000 customers lost electrical power in the afternoon and early evening of the 6th.
