A series of low pressure systems moving east off the North Carolina coast and a relatively strong high pressure system over Eastern Canada brought a prolonged period of rain to Central and Northwest New Jersey from around Midnight EDT on the 2nd through the morning on the 3rd. The heaviest rain fell during the day on the 2nd.

A series of low pressure systems moving east off the North Carolina coast and a relatively strong high pressure system over Eastern Canada brought a prolonged period of rain to Central and Northwest New Jersey from around Midnight EDT on the 2nd through the morning on the 3rd. The heaviest rain fell during the day on the 2nd. Storm totals averaged between 1 and 2 inches, although amounts exceeded 3 inches on Long Beach Island. Since the rain was spread over about a 30 hour period, flooding was limited to low-lying and poor drainage locations mainly during the day on the 2nd. Storm totals included 3.57 inches in Harvey Cedars (Ocean County), 1.82 inches in Wertsville (Hunterdon County), 1.74 inches in Princeton (Mercer County), 1.57 inches in Long Pond (Morris County), 1.43 inches in Brick (Ocean County), 1.40 inches in Pottersville (Somerset County), 1.23 inches in New Brunswick (Middlesex County), 1.14 inches in Belvidere (Warren County) and 1.07 inches in McGuire AFB. Storm totals farther south in New Jersey were generally lighter, mostly between 0.50 and 1.00 inch.
