An outbreak of arctic cold followed in the wake of a departing winter storm. Wind chills were occasionally minus 20 to minus 25. Area shelters reported a sharp rise in the number of homeless people checking in. Two vagrants were found by police suffering from severe exposure. The high temperature of 10 degrees was the lowest on record for January 11 at Paducah.
