What happened

The episode as NWS GJT wrote it up.

Strong prefrontal winds blew down numerous Spruce and Douglas Fir trees within an old growth forest of the Weminuche Wilderness of southeast San Juan County. The diameter of the fallen trees ranged from 2 feet to 3.5 feet in diameter. Most of the downed trees were snapped off several feet above the ground while a smaller number were uprooted. Numerous trails in the wilderness area were blocked by the fallen trees. Several high quality dome tents were destroyed when their flexible support poles were snapped and the tent fabric was shredded.
