Record heat combined with some tropical moisture to create a very unstable atmosphere over southwest Utah. A severe thunderstorm developed in Iron county at first dumping heavy rain between Duck Creek Village and Cedar City. Flooding closed State Route 14 for 2 hours due to rocks and mud being washed on it. Nearly six-tenths (0.58") of an inch of rain fell in 35 minutes in Cedar City. This storm also dropped large hail. One inch diameter hailstones were the largest ones measured by observers in the area. Minor damage was reported.
