Damaging Wind in Oklahoma, July 26, 1996

A supercell thunderstorm with a strong mesocyclone moved through western portions of the Oklahoma City metro area. Wind damage was extensive throughout an area bordered by NW 11th Street, NW 22nd Street, Pennsylvania Avenue, and Portland Avenue.Severe thunderstorm winds knocked down power lines, uprooted trees, and blew off part of the roof of a warehouse at 201 N Ann Arbor. Debris from the roof broke windows and dented cars in the parking lot. About 25% of the left and center field fences of All Sports Stadium were blown down by the winds and windows in the skyboxes were blown out. The bubble roof on the International Trade Center at the State Fair Grounds collapsed, causing about $5000 in damage.Numerous broken limbs as large as 3-feet in diameter were scattered throughout the area. Severe thunderstorm winds downed utility poles and uprooted trees as large as 4 feet in diameter. Details on some of the more major damage follow here. On NW 13th Street, 3 trees were blown over onto houses, causing roof and window damage. On NW 15th Street 2 large trees were uprooted and a 4.5 foot diameter tree fell onto a garage. On NW 17th Street an awning was blown off a house, a 3-foot tree fell onto power lines, a tree was blown down onto a front porch, and another 3-foot tree fell onto a house, damaging the roof and siding. On NW 18th Street a 2-foot diameter tree was uprooted. On NW 19th Street 2-3 foot trees were uprooted. On Aurora Court a 4-foot tree was split in half. On Independence a 4.5 foot tree was blown down, knocking down awnings and damaging siding. Another 4-foot tree was uprooted. On Linn a tree limb knocked out windows in a house and a 4-foot tree fell and blocked the road. On Flynn a 3-foot tree was split in half.
