A cool front moved into the area during the morning and by early afternoon the front had pushed into the southern portions of the region. A warm capping layer of air aloft suppressed thunderstorm activity across the north but a weaker cap in the south enabled thunderstorms to develop in that area as the front approached. Scattered severe thunderstorms developed and moved east-southeast across the south central zones of northern Texas. Large hail, damaging wind gusts and two weak, short-lived tornadoes were produced by the stronger storms.
