High Wind in Oklahoma, June 6, 1996

Severe thunderstorms moved across northeast Oklahoma during the late evening of June 5th and very early morning of June 6th. Strong thunderstorm winds downed large tree limbs in Bristow, and 60 mile an hour winds downed small trees and tree limbs 4 miles east of New Prue. Thnuderstorm winds gusted to 65 miles an hour in Kiefer, to 61 miles an hour at an automated observing site 7 miles southwest of Burbank, and to 60 miles an hour in Burbank, 6 miles west of Maramec, in Pawnee, and in Mannford. Dime size hail fell on Gilcrease Road 2 miles west of Tulsa.As the thunderstorms weakened, strong outflow winds spread north across Osage County. An automated observing site 8 miles east southeast of Foraker recorded a peak wind gust of 65 miles an hour at 0020CST. Several other gusts over 60 miles an hour occurred between 0015CST and 0025CST. The temperature warmed about 15 degrees into the mid 80s during this time and remained in the 80s for several hours.
