During the morning and early afternoon hours of August 8, training showers and thunderstorms with torrential downpours produced up to seven inches of rain across southern Herkimer County. This resulted in extensive flash flooding in the Town of Frankfort and to a lesser degree in the Village of Ilion. A state of emergency was declared in Herkimer County. In the Village of Frankfort, 75 homes were evacuated. One house was destroyed, five homes were damaged and three vehicles were flooded. Many creeks overflowed their banks including Moyer Creek which caused widespread flooding along Main Street in the Village of Frankfort. Moyer Creek Bridge and a bridge on Center Road were washed out. Frankfort Gorge Road, Mucky Run Road, Avery Road, McGowan Road, Center Road and Brice Road in the Town of Frankfort, were also heavily damaged. A couple of roads in the Village of Ilion were also flooded and a few evacuation occurred.
