A narrow band of heavy snow, only about 25 miles wide, extended from Poplar Bluff northeast through Cape Girardeau. The heaviest totals were near 6 inches across Cape Girardeau and Bollinger Counties. Poplar Bluff reported 3 inches. The surprise snow gave most students a day off from school. Numerous traffic mishaps were reported. The storm began as rain, which changed to a period of sleet and freezing rain before turning to heavy snow.
