High Wind in Alaska, January 8, 1996
North wind gusts to 56 mph blew rocks and boulders onto the last 600 - 700 feet of Unalaska's (Dutch Harbor) runway during Monday's high tide, forcing closure of the last 900 feet of the 3,900 foot runway while the rocks were removed. Several Alaska Air jets and the Reeve Aleutian Air Electra were unable to land on the reduced runway.
