A supercell thunderstorm produced large hail in both southern Shiawassee and Southern Genesee Counties. In both Linden and Fenton of southern Genesee County, the hail fell for at least 10 minutes, causing serious damage to two fruit orchards in these communities. Damage was estimated at a minimum of $500,000, but this damage estimate was expected to increase due to spraying costs for disease prevention for the trees, and the fact that much of the damage will show only with time.
