October 21, 2016 Earthquake: Kurayoshi, Japan

As the tremors continue to rumble on Saturday, more than 160 houses have been partially destroyed around the city of Kurayoshi and town of Yurihama, and three have been completely destroyed in the town of Hokuei, local officials said. (reference #11615)

A powerful earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.6 shook parts of western Honshu, Japan early Friday afternoon, damaging homes and some roads and cutting power to 77,000 people... No deaths were reported in the powerful earthquake, although there were at least seven people injured, including one 70-year-old woman who fell and broke her leg, says the Okayama City Fire Department, according to the Japan Times. In all, at least two houses collapsed and television footage coming out of the area shows roof tiles knocked to the ground, a cemetery wall that has collapsed, and bottles and cans of food items strewn across the floor of a local grocery store... Bullet train services have been suspended in the area and nearly 40,000 homes were believed to be temporarily left without power as the quake knocked out power lines.
