reported in the Okayama-Tottori area. Recorded (6U
JMA) in Tottori; (5U JMA) in northern Okayama; (5L
JMA) in northeastern Shimane, southern Hiroshima and
Okayama Prefectures; (4 JMA) in much of southwestern
Honshu. Recorded (5U JMA) in eastern Kagawa; (5L JMA)
in Tokushima and western Kagawa; (4 JMA) in northern
Ehime and Kochi; (3 JMA) in southern Ehime
Prefectures, Shikoku. Recorded (2 JMA) from southern

Earthquake damage resulted in injuries to 112
persons. After the earthquake, 3,600 persons were
temporarily evacuated from their homes by government
agencies, in fear of possible aftershock effects to lightly damaged buildings. A total of about 2,100 building were damaged. The damage mostly consisted of roof tiles on single family houses. Most of the losses for the earthquake are associated with damage to the port region near Yanago, which suffered extensive liquefaction. (reference #1285)
