January 13, 1965, 01:18:09 local time, Yuanqu, Shanxi Province. 35 deg 00 min N, 111 deg 38 min E, depth 10 km, magnitude 5.5, intensity VII.

Meizoseismal region: Around Shangao, Xinarzhuang,

Ohangjiagou, Belling, Antou, Waitoushan villages of Yuangu County and Jiasang of Xiaxian County. Many earth cave dwelling collapsed. All old adobe houses and industrial and civilian masonry houses of poor structure were injured,

many were damaged, and a few collapsed. Almost all cave dwellings collapsed in Shang'ao. Stones fell from mountains. Two sets of fissures occurred on the hillsides between Jiasang and Xiaozhuang, one of them in weathered andesites, with a length of about 50 m, a maximum width up to 1 m and a maximum depth of 3 m; the other set in loess, and composed of 6-7 fissures with a maximum length up to 50 m and a width of 10-20 cm. 2 km the north of Gasang, a ground fissure 8 m long, 2 cm wide and 8 cm in depth cut obliquely a mountain ridge. The water level of springs changed and some become turbid.

Yuangu and -Xiaxian county: Some earth cave dwellings were damaged and a few of them collapsed in the county seat and its surroundings. A few tile-roofed houses tilted, fissured with tiles fell down. Chimneys fell.

The shock was felt in Qixian, Shilou, ]iexiu, Lingshi, Wuxiang, Daning, Fenxi, Hoxian, Qinyuan, Xiangyuan, Puxlan,

Hongdong, Anze, Jixian, Xiangning, Linfen, Fushan, Yicheng, Qinshui, Oaoplng, jincheng, Yangcheng, Quwo (former city), Jiangxian, Houma, Xinjiang, Jishan, Hejin, Wanrong, Wenxi, Linyi, Yuncheng, Yongji, Pinglu, Ruicheng,and Jiyuan

of Shanxi Province; Jiaozuo, Loyang, Yanshi, Wenxian, Xingyang, Linru, Yichuan, Ruyang, Yiyang, Songxian, Luoning, Lushi, Lingbao, Shanxian, Sanmenxia, Mianchi, Xin'an and Menjin of Henan Province; Yichuan, Heyang, Pucheng, Dati, Huayin, Tongguan, Huaxian, Luonan, Shangxian and Shangnan of Shaanxi Province.
