July 13, 1787, 6:45 a.m. Panay Island Provinces of Iloilo
and Antique, Buenavista: Tremendous earthquake felt in the whole island of Panay on the 13th instant (July) at 6:45 in the morning. (reference #1187)
July 13, 7 a.m., intensity X. Panay Island. A terrible earthquake which left the whole island strewn with ruins. Of 15 to 20 churches and convents in Iloflo Province only two or three remained standing; in the two other
provinces, Capiz and Antique, the destruction was less universal. Even the thick walls of the fort at Iloilo were breached in many places. There were subsidences in the plains and landslides in the mountains and mighty fissures opened. It is stated that the victims were numerous: in one building 15 persons perished. (reference #1072)
