September 21 , 1679, Red Sea. In the second half of Sha'ban (from 21 September) a volcanic eruption occurred in the Zuqar islands, N.W. of al-Mukha in the southern Red Sea. The eruption was followed by a series of earthquakes in al Mukha, which was partially destroyed by a fire. The governor took to the sea in fear. The fire was extinguished by rainfall at the beginning of Shawwal (from 5 November 1679), i.e. after about six weeks. (reference #3845)
