Severe thunderstorms are ongoing across areas south of Interstate 40 late this afternoon. The strongest storms will have the potential to produce very large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes. Locally heavy rain which could lead to isolated instances of flash flooding will also be a threat. The severe weather potential will decrease late in the evening, with the thunderstorm potential shifting south and east of the area. With all the rain that has occurred in the last 24 hours, patchy fog may develop across most of eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas after midnight, continuing through daybreak Saturday. SPOTTER AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT ACTION STATEMENT... Activation of the Regional Spotter Network Likely. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Saturday through Thursday. SATURDAY...Severe Thunderstorm and Heavy Rain Potential. SUNDAY AND MONDAY...Thunderstorm and High Wind Potential. TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY...Thunderstorm Potential. THURSDAY...Thunderstorm...High Wind...and Heavy Rain Potential. EXTENDED DISCUSSION... Severe thunderstorm potential will increase once again Saturday afternoon and evening in response to a warm front lifting northward across the area. Large to very large hail is the most likely hazard, but locally damaging winds and isolated tornadoes are also possible. The threat is more conditional Sunday, but if storms do develop, they would likely have significant severe weather potential, including a threat for tornadoes. A cold front will move through Monday, with perhaps a brief reprieve from storm activity.
