.SYNOPSIS...
A surface boundary will continue to linger over and near our region
through Monday. A stronger cold front approaches Tuesday and looks
to cross through the region Wednesday into Thursday. Surface high
pressure builds in thereafter and holds influence over the region
for the end of the week.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH SUNDAY/...
The weather pattern today remains the same as it has been for the
past couple of days. A strong ridge is off the East Coast, while a
trough over the Tennessee Valley continues to send shortwaves
northward generally up the Appalachians. A larger scale trough
around Hudson Bay extending southward into the Great Lakes will
finally help lift the aforementioned trough northeastward across the
Appalachians, while the offshore ridge gives way. All of this will
allow a stationary front that has been hanging up to the west of our
region to drift closer in on Sunday into Monday, with a couple weak
waves of surface low pressure traveling along it.

As we head through this afternoon, thunderstorms have been primarily
focused on the sea breeze toward the NJ shore, but have been
gradually building westward closer to I-95 with the aid of outflow
boundaries from the earlier storms. RAP analysis suggest 2500-3500
j/kg CAPE across much of our area. However, with all of the low
clouds this morning along with some cloud debris from earlier
convection, instability overall across our area, particularly north
and west of I-95, looks somewhat more limited than yesterday. We
have warmed well into the 80s across the Delaware Valley on
southeastward, and dewpoints outside of the Poconos for the most
part are in the low to mid 70s, with another very warm and muggy
day. For most spots though, this will be the first day we don't
eclipse 90 degree high temperatures. Additionally, wind shear is a
bit less today. While storms near the sea breeze, and particularly
one drifting across Middlesex County this afternoon, have been
locally severe, overall in most areas expect that storms will not be
as strong as yesterday, with somewhat lesser coverage as well,
especially back west across PA and northwest NJ.

Most model guidance suggests that thunderstorm activity will
diminish 6-9 PM with the loss of daytime heating. Low clouds and
areas of fog may settle in once again overnight. However, a more
prominent shortwave lifting north overnight into early Sunday
morning may result in showers and sub-severe embedded thunderstorms
drifting in from the west across eastern PA into northwest NJ
tonight. There is less consistency and agreement from the model
guidance how much, if any of that makes it toward the I-95 corridor
tonight, with areas south and east of there likely mainly rain-free
through early Sunday morning. Meanwhile some isolated showers and
storms may drift up across the Delmarva early Sunday as well.

Sunday is looking like a cooler and cloudier day overall, though
still warm and muggy with a very moist and unstable airmass in
place. With the aforementioned diffuse stationary front trying to
drift farther southeast into our area, along with a bit more
shortwave energy passing by throughout the day on Sunday, expect
overall forcing for showers and thunderstorms to be a bit greater
than past days, while instability will be lower, resulting in
perhaps more widespread precipitation but weaker storms. Highs may
only be in the upper 70s to low 80s for most of the area, but
dewpoints will still be generally in the low 70s. Enough wind shear
will exist still to support a 'marginal' risk for severe
thunderstorms, with the primary threat being damaging winds, but
would not rule out isolated large hail either. While the sea breeze
could still be active around midday, models suggest thunderstorms
will become more focused perhaps near or just northwest I-95, with a
threat for flash flooding where any storms persist. Expect showers
and t-storms will diminish in intensity and coverage once again as
we approach sunset.

.SHORT TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/...
The short term will look to begin Sunday night with a stationary
surface boundary still lingering over the region. Guidance suggests
this boundary will continue to linger over the region through Monday
and possibly even into the time frame of Monday night. During the
same time frame however, stronger low pressure and associated fronts
will be developing west of region and moving eastward. These
features will look to force the surface boundary offshore of the
region possibly by the time frame of Tuesday morning. Following the
surface boundary movement offshore, the cold front to the west will
continue to approach our region through Tuesday.

This pattern supports continued stormy conditions across the region
through much of the short term. For Sunday night, likely chance PoPs
throughout the region to begin the period are included in the
forecast. PoPs decrease with time towards Monday morning as
shower/thunderstorm potential decreases. Widespread fog development
is possible in the second half of the period and should be expected
near 12z Monday. WPC maintains the I-95 corridor and areas
northwestwards of it outlooked for a SLIGHT/MARGINAL risk of
excessive rainfall for the period. The environment supports
showers/thunderstorms which will be capable of producing heavy
downpours which may lead to localized flooding.

For Monday, fog may linger for a short period after 12z. Chance PoPs
are included through the period as the surface stationary front
lingers. Will increase PoPs in the afternoon as shower/thunderstorm
potential increases due to access to daytime heating. For the
overnight period, fog may develop across the region once again as we
linger with moist conditions and airmass.

For Tuesday, cold front from the west will continue to approach the
region. Despite surface boundary offshore, shortwave energy may
linger which may again allow for the development of showers/thunderstorms.
Shower/thunderstorm potential will of course be greater in the
afternoon due to daytime heating driving convection; will
increase PoPs in the afternoon.

&&

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
A cold front will look to continue to approach the region Tuesday
night and be either on our doorstep or beginning to cross through
the region Wednesday morning. Though the cold front may slow down
some while crossing the region, it will look to be offshore by
Thursday morning. Surface high pressure will look to build in behind
the front and will look to hold influence over the region thereafter
through the end of the long term.

Likely PoPs are included for Tuesday night and Wednesday, will bring
them down through Wednesday night. No PoPs are included for Thursday
through the end of the long term. WPC has highlighted the I-95
corridor and areas northwestwards of it in a MARGINAL risk for
excessive rainfall Tuesday night into Wednesday. WPC maintains much
of the region in a SLIGHT/MARGINAL risk for excessive rainfall
Wednesday night into Thursday. Will continue to monitor the
environment during these periods for supportive conditions of
showers/thunderstorms capable of producing heavy downpours.

We continue to monitor the track forecast for Hurricane Lee. While
the hurricane is still forecast to make a northward turn with it
remaining well east of our area, there still is some uncertainty. As
of now, the main impacts look to be incoming large swells and the
development of dangerous rip currents into our area during next
week.

.AVIATION /21Z SATURDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG, KILG,
KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Today...Mainly VFR outside of scattered showers and thunderstorms.
The thunderstorms will bring locally heavy rainfall along with brief
MVFR/IFR conditions, along with gusty and erratic winds.
Thunderstorms will be in the vicinity of I-95 this afternoon, then
diminish this evening, while staying inland from the coast and
mainly southeast of ABE/RDG. Elsewhere winds  will be light east or
southeast. Medium confidence.

Tonight...Low clouds and patchy fog developing late tonight, mainly
06-12Z, with MVFR to even localized IFR conditions. Some occasional
showers and even a stray thunderstorm possible between RDG and ABE
overnight. Variable wind 5 knots or less. Medium confidence.

Sunday...MVFR to IFR ceilings and VSBY with patchy fog early in the
morning, improving to VFR mid or late morning but then showers and
thunderstorms developing once again around midday or early
afternoon, before diminishing toward evening. MVFR or IFR conditions
possible near thunderstorms. Light southeast winds otherwise outside
of any storms. Low confidence.

Outlook...

Sunday night...Sub-VFR. SHRA/VCTS likely for first half of the
period. Fog development in the latter half of the period may drive
sites down to MVFR/IFR visibilities. Light and variable winds. Low
confidence.

Monday...Generally VFR, though fog in the morning may cause sub-VFR
conditions to linger. SHRA/VCTS possible for the afternoon. W/SW
winds around 5 kts becoming NW by evening. Low confidence.

Monday night...Generally VFR before fog development in the latter
half of the period may drive sites down to MVFR/IFR visibilities.
Light and variable winds. Low confidence.

Tuesday...Generally VFR, though fog in the morning may cause sub-VFR
conditions to linger. SHRA/VCTS possible for the afternoon. S winds
around 5 to 10 kts. Low confidence.

Tuesday night...Sub-VFR with SHRA/VCTS. SE winds around 5 to 10 kts
becoming westerly by morning. Low confidence.

Wednesday...Sub-VFR with SHRA/VCTS. Westerly winds 5 to 10 kts. Low
confidence.

Thursday...VFR. NW winds 10 to 15 kts. Moderate confidence.

.MARINE...
Conditions will remain below Small Craft Advisory criteria
through Sunday. Some isolated thunderstorms, mainly inland and
near Delaware Bay, will be possible each afternoon though. A
southerly wind 10 to 15 kt today will decrease to around 5 kt
later tonight, then increase to around 10 kt again but from the
east-southeast on Sunday. Waves on most of our ocean waters are
expected to be around 2 feet, with waves on Delaware Bay at 2
feet or less.

Rip Currents...

A southerly wind 10 to 15 MPH is expected for today along the
coasts of Delaware and New Jersey. Breaking waves are forecast
to be around 1 foot with an underlying long period east to
southeast swell (around 10 seconds). There is a LOW risk of rip
currents for today.

A south to southeast wind around 10 MPH is anticipated for
Sunday with breaking waves around 1 foot. An underlying very
long period southeasterly swell (around 16 seconds) is forecast
to arrive. However, we will keep the mention of a LOW risk of
rip currents since the breaking waves should be relatively tame.
