.SYNOPSIS...
A stationary front remains over the area through Thursday
before returning back north as a warm front Thursday night. A
cold front then passes through the region on Friday. High
pressure builds in from the west on Saturday then weakens and
moves offshore Sunday night. Several disturbances may affect the
area early in the new work week.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH THURSDAY/...
The stationary front draped across the southern part of the
region will be the main feature of the near term forecast.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening
will gradually dissipate after sunset and give way to a dry
overnight and Thursday.

With showers and thunderstorms forming in the vicinity of the
stalled front, the main concern continues to be the threat for
heavy downpours as well as a marginal threat for severe weather.
The good news is that the modest low level jet remains just off
the coast leaving weaker shear in place over the area. Overall,
the lack of shear should result in relatively weaker and more
unorganized convection for the remainder of this afternoon and
evening though the threat of an isolated downburst causing gusty
winds cannot be completely ruled out. However, with PWATs still
in the range of 1.5 inches, brief heavy downpours with the
showers and storms remain possible. The instability is largely
surface based so as we lose surface heating as we approach
sunset, showers/storms will gradually dissipate later this
evening.

Areas of fog may then become a concern overnight given that
moisture will still remain elevated overnight. Lows will be in
the 60s to low 70s. With the next shortwave approaching a bit
slower, the vast majority of the day Thursday will be dry
outside of the most western areas where showers and
thunderstorms may begin to move in late in the day from central
Pennsylvania and Maryland. Otherwise, another hot and humid day
is expected with highs in the mid to upper 80s (near 80 in the
Southern Poconos) and dew points in the upper 60s to low 70s.

.SHORT TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
A deep H5 trough with strong shortwave energy will approach
from the west Thursday evening, and surface low pressure
develops over both the Great Lakes and over the southern
Appalachians. The low over the Great lakes will stay north of
the region, but the secondary low lifts north through Delmarva
and New Jersey late Thursday night and Friday morning. As it
does, it will pull the stationary front over or just south of
the area back north as a warm front.

There are timing concerns. The main activity looks to hold off
until well after midnight, but the 12Z/19 NAM has come in much
slower than the 12Z/19 operational GFS. The 12Z/19 ECMWF seems
more in line with the GFS. Best timing for showers and
thunderstorms may end up being in the 09Z to 18Z (5am to 2pm)
time frame on Friday.

A warm and humid airmass will be over the area with surface dew
points in the upper 60s to low 70s. PWATs will be in excess of
1.5 to 1.7 inches. Surface-based CAPE values will average 500 to
1000 J/kg. Main threat should be heavy rain, though 35 to 40 kt
of 0-6 km Bulk Shear looks to move into the area after 12Z
Friday, so cannot rule out the threat for gusty to locally
damaging winds.

A cold front approaches Friday afternoon and moves across the
region Friday evening. After highs generally in the low to mid
80s and surface dewpoints well in the 60s to around 70, there
should be enough instability for another round of showers and
thunderstorms in the afternoon and early evening. Another
shortwave approaches from the west and moves across the region
during that time, and surface- based CAPE values will be up
around 2000 J/kg. So a second round of strong to potentially
severe thunderstorms may occur during this time, especially if
there is the 35 to 40 kt of 0-6 KM Bulk Shear that the 12Z/19
NAM is indicating.

High pressure then builds in from the west Friday night and
Saturday. Much less humid conditions develop as surface dew
points drop into the mid 60s into Saturday morning. Given
abundant sunshine Saturday afternoon and a west to northwest
flow, there should be enough mixing Saturday afternoon for dew
points to drop even further, generally the upper 50s to low 60s.
With highs in the low to mid 80s, Saturday may end up being one
of the nicest days of the summer this year, as long as smoke
plumes from Canadian wildfires is minimal.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
With high pressure moving over the area Saturday night through
Sunday, conditions will be dry, mild, and pleasant with low
relative humidity values. Lows Saturday night will be in the
upper 50s in the southern Poconos and far northwest New Jersey,
and otherwise in the low 60s. Lows will be a bit warmer along
the I-95 corridor, along the coasts, and in Delmarva. Highs on
Sunday will be in the mid to upper 80s with surface dew points
in the low to mid 60s.

Going into the new week, the pattern that has been in place of
late returns. An upper trough will encompass much of the Eastern
third of the U.S. and several strong shortwaves will pass
through the region. Mainly diurnally driven convection will
develop each afternoon starting in the new work week, and
humidity levels will creep back up with surface dewpoints rising
into the upper 60s and by the middle of next week, the low 70s.
Highs warm back into the upper 80s to around 90.

.AVIATION /20Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas...

Rest of Today...VFR predominately, but intervals of MVFR and
instances of IFR possible with heavier showers and thunderstorms
moving across the terminals this afternoon. Best chance of
restriction is from I-95 terminals westward...lesser risk at
KMIV and KACY. Winds will be somewhat variable with a front in
the vicinity, but favor an easterly direction.

Tonight...IFR possible mainly late and especially south of KTTN
where fog may develop overnight. Winds variable becoming
northerly at 5 kts or less.

Thursday...Mainly VFR through the daytime. A few isolated to
scattered showers/storms possible later in the afternoon that
could cause brief restrictions...best chances for this at RDG
and ABE. Winds east to southeast then becoming more southerly
late day at speeds of around 5 to 10 knots. Moderate confidence.

Outlook...

Thursday night...Sub-VFR in SHRA/TSRA/fog/stratus. Heaviest
SHRA/TSRA mainly after 06Z. S to SE winds 5 to 10 kt. Moderate
confidence.

Friday...Sub-VFR in SHRA/TSRA in the morning, then another
round of SHRA/TSRA with sub-VFR conditions possible in the
afternoon. S winds 5 to 10 kt, becoming W in the afternoon. Sea
breezes at KACY possible. Low confidence.

Friday night...Lingering SHRA/TSRA taper off. VFR otherwise. W
to NW winds 5 to 10 kt. Moderate confidence.

Saturday through Saturday night...VFR. W to NW winds 10 to 15
kt with gusts up to 20 kt during the day, then less than 10 kt
at night. High confidence.

Sunday through Sunday night...VFR. W to NW winds 10 to 15 kt
with gusts up to 20 kt during the day, then LGT/VRB at night.
High confidence.

Monday...VFR. Scattered afternoon SHRA/TSRA possible. S winds 5
to 10 kt. Moderate confidence.

.MARINE...
Sub-advisory conditions on the waters through Thursday with
winds around 10 kts from the southeast this afternoon, then
turning northerly by late tonight and then easterly again
tomorrow afternoon. Waves 2-4 ft. Main boating hazard will be
potential for scattered thunderstorms this afternoon into this
evening. Patchy marine fog is possible overnight tonight as
well.

Outlook...

Thursday night through Monday...A prolonged period of sub-SCA
conditions anticipated. A round of showers and thunderstorms
with gusty winds and heavy rain possible late Thursday night and
Friday morning, then again late Friday afternoon and evening.
Tranquil conditions expected this weekend.

Rip Currents...

A light northwest to west wind this morning is forecast to
become southerly around 10 MPH in the afternoon. Breaking waves
should be 2 to 4 feet with a medium period southerly swell.
There should still be an underlying long period swell from the
east and southeast. However, with breaking wave heights on the
decrease, we will carry a MODERATE risk for New Jersey and a LOW
risk for Delaware for rip currents on Wednesday.

For Thursday, south to southeast winds will are forecast to be a
bit lighter with a further diminishing longer period swell.
Therefor, we are expecting a LOW risk of rip currents for all
New Jersey and Delaware Beaches on Thursday.

western Chester Counties through 630 PM EDT...

At 538 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over
Honey Brook, or 8 miles east of New Holland, moving northeast at 20
mph.

HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and half inch hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
         unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is
         possible.
