.SYNOPSIS...
A weak frontal boundary extending across southeastern
Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey this afternoon will lift
slowly northward this evening and overnight. A broad area of low
pressure approaching from the west and southwest will influence
our weather on Sunday and Sunday night. It is forecast to pull
a weak cold front through our region early on Monday. The low is
anticipated to drift away to our east on Monday and Monday
night with high pressure following for the mid week period.
Another frontal boundary may approach from the west and
northwest late in the week.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...
An active period of weather is underway this weekend. A trough
axis will continue pushing toward the area through Sunday night
with several shortwaves streaming ahead of it. The primary
period of height falls will occur during the daytime hours
Sunday. At the surface, a stalled thermodynamic boundary remains
just northwest of the I-95 corridor this afternoon. This
boundary will lift north of the area Sunday morning, then a cold
front and weak surface low will cross the area into Sunday
night.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms have developed early this
afternoon, and this activity should persist into the early
evening. Compared to yesterday, the only change is modest dry
air advection (primarily in the mid levels). There will still be
more than sufficient moisture for convective initiation (though
the heavy rain threat may be slightly lower for today). SPC RAP
mesoanalysis indicates SBCAPE is high, pushing 3000 J/kg across
the urban corridor. MLCAPE is more modest in the 1500-2000 J/kg
range though. The mid-level dry air is leading to some high
DCAPE values around 800-1200 J/kg. Greater coverage should
remain focused around the urban corridor, though some more
isolated cells are possible across the coastal plain and
northwest of I-95 too. The main threat with this activity will
be gusty winds and locally heavy downpours. The severe
microburst potential is low, but can't completely rule out a
severe wind gust or two through early evening.

Highs will be mainly in the mid to upper 80s today, however
dewpoints in the low 70s will produce heat indicies in the mid
to upper 90s. We should remain just shy of Heat Advisory
criteria though. The convective outflow should also help cool
things down into this evening.

Overnight, there will be a lull in shower and thunderstorm
activity. However, an isolated shower or storm will remain
possible. It will be a humid night with lows near 70 degrees. As
the marine layer pushes inland, low clouds and some areas of
fog should develop across the coastal plain, and possibly
reaching northwest of I-95.

For Sunday, instability will build quickly during the morning
and early afternoon thanks to the abundant surface moisture and
southerly flow. MLCAPE is forecast to build to the 1000-2000
J/kg range, however lapse rates will be poor around 5-6 C/km.
Deep warm cloud layers to near 4 km and PWats rising to near 2"
will result in very efficient rainfall rates around 1-3" per
hour with any robust and more organized convection. A line of
heavy showers and thunderstorms is expected to develop across
central and eastern Pennsylvania and Maryland by early Sunday
afternoon and push slowly east through the afternoon and
evening.

The mean cloud layer flow parallel to the frontal boundary
moving slowly east is expected to result in training convection.
This combined with the efficient rainfall rates is forecast to
result in widespread rainfall amounts of 1-2" with isolated
amount of 3-5" possible. These amounts are supported by the past
several runs of CAMs and ensemble guidance. This has prompted
the issuance of a Flood Watch for a large portion of the area
due to the potential for flash flooding. The watch begins at
noon Sunday and continues until midnight Sunday night for much
of the watch area, however the northern New Jersey segment
continues until 6 AM Monday. The latest CAM guidance indicates
potential for lingering heavy rain into the overnight period in
this area. WPC has upgraded the Day 2 Excessive Rainfall Outlook
to include a MODERATE risk for areas northwest of I-95. This is
where the highest rainfall totals are forecast.

There is some potential for main stem river flooding with this
event, however there is uncertainty as to which basins will
receive the heaviest rainfall. Monitor the latest river
forecasts for the latest information.

The threat for flash flooding will remain the primary threat
with Sunday's setup, however some isolated to scattered damaging
winds may be possible with some of the thunderstorms. The SPC
has highlighted portions of the area in a slight risk, which is
where the greatest threat for damaging winds exists.

Aside from the convection, it will start out as another very
warm and humid day with highs in the 80s. It will also be mostly
cloudy with a southeast wind around 5-10 mph.

Light to moderate stratiform rain with some embedded convection
and thunder may linger into the nighttime period Sunday night,
otherwise, the activity should generally wane in coverage and
intensity as the night progresses. It will be humid with lows
ranging from the mid 60s to near 70 degrees.

.SHORT TERM /MONDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
A robust mid level low is forecast to meander over northern
Ontario and vicinity on Monday and Tuesday with a trough
deepening over the Great Lakes. A couple of short waves on the
periphery of the cyclonic flow are expected to affect the Middle
Atlantic states and the Northeast from Monday into Tuesday. The
models are having some difficulty in resolving the short wave
energy. However, trends indicate that it will be nudged off the
coast and out to sea on Tuesday.

We are anticipating lingering clouds and a chance of showers
and thunderstorms on Monday. However, a developing west to
northwest flow should help to begin reducing the humidity a bit.
The trend should continue into Monday night and Tuesday.
Presently, it appears as though Tuesday will be precipitation-
free as the surface low moves farther out to sea and as high
pressure begins to build into our region from the west.

Monday's highs are expected to favor the lower and middle 80s
due to the cloud cover and scattered precipitation. Tuesday's
maximum temperatures should be in the middle and upper 80s with
dew point readings dropping into the 60s. Lows on Monday night
are forecast to be mostly in the 60s, as well.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
The mid level low is expected to remain over northern Ontario,
northeastern Manitoba and adjacent Hudson Bay from Tuesday night
through Saturday. We should remain on the edge of its influence
through the period.

Surface high pressure is forecast to extend along the central
and southern Appalachians on Tuesday night. The high is
anticipated to slide off the coast on Wednesday, but not before
bringing us a mostly sunny and hot day.

Humidity should be on the increase again late in the week in
the southerly flow on the back side of the high. Some short wave
energy traveling in the mid level flow along with increasing
instability could begin to trigger some mainly afternoon and
evening showers and thunderstorms on Thursday, Friday and
Saturday.

Temperatures will likely remain seasonable for the period from
Thursday through Saturday.

.AVIATION /20Z SATURDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Through 00Z...Prevailing VFR conditions, however scattered
showers and thunderstorms may briefly introduce MVFR/IFR
restrictions due to heavy rain and ceilings. Winds mainly
variable around 5 kts, though should favor a southerly direction
near and south of I-95. Moderate confidence overall.

Tonight...Prevailing VFR expected early with increasing
coverage of mid to high level clouds late. Guidance has remained
very consistent in developing MVFR to IFR conditions in stratus
and fog as the marine layer pushes inland overnight and near
daybreak Sunday, especially for TTN/PNE/MIV/ACY. The latest TAF
issuance includes a conservative approach to some of this
guidance. Winds generally 5 kts or less, generally favoring an
east to southeast direction. Moderate confidence overall, but
lower confidence on timing and coverage of restrictions late
tonight.

Sunday...Lingering MVFR or IFR conditions early should scatter
out toward 15Z or so, then MVFR and IFR conditions will likely
redevelop as a line of slow moving heavy showers and
thunderstorms pushes through the area around 18-21Z. Light to
moderate rain and thunder may linger through 00-03Z. Moderate
confidence overall, but lower confidence on timing of
restrictions in TSRA from 18Z and later.

Outlook...

Monday...Mainly VFR. Scattered showers and thunderstorms could
briefly lower conditions to MVFR or IFR. Northwest wind 5 to 10
knots. Medium confidence.

Tuesday...Mainly VFR. Some early morning ceiling and visibility
restrictions are possible. Northwest to west wind around 10
knots. Medium to high confidence.

Wednesday...Mainly VFR. Some early morning ceiling and
visibility restrictions are possible. Southwest to south wind
around 10 knots. Medium to high confidence.

Thursday...Mainly VFR. Some early morning ceiling and
visibility restrictions are possible. A chance of afternoon and
evening showers and thunderstorms. Southwest to south wind 10 to
15 knots. Medium confidence.

.MARINE...
No marine headlines are expected through Sunday. South to
southeast winds around 10 kts with some gusts near 15-20 kts
possible. Seas 1- 3 feet with a southeast swell. Showers and
thunderstorms expected late Sunday afternoon and evening with
heavy downpours and gusty winds possible.

Outlook...

Monday through Thursday...No marine headlines are anticipated.

Rip currents...

Through Sunday, there is a LOW risk for the development of
dangerous rip currents for the New Jersey and Delaware beaches.
Despite onshore southeasterly winds both days (with speeds
around 10 mph), wave heights are expected to be low enough to
result in a low risk. The medium period (8 to 10 second)
southeasterly swell is expected to continue through this time.
