.SYNOPSIS...
A warm front will continue to lift to our north this morning. A
cold front is forecast to settle across our region tonight
before stalling, then it should dissipate on Wednesday. The next
cold front arrives later Thursday, then stalls just to our
south and east Friday before weakening inland over the weekend.
Another cold front may approach later Sunday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
An impulse traveling in the mid level flow was responsible for
the showers and isolated thunderstorms that were occurring in
parts of eastern Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey around
6:00 AM. The impulse and the showers and isolated thunder are
expected to move away to our northeast during the mid to late
morning hours.

A southwesterly wind is forecast to increase to 10 to 15 MPH
for the late morning and afternoon hours with gusts in the 20 to
25 MPH range. The flow will continue to bring warm humid air
into our region. Dew point readings should remain in the lower
70s. High temperatures are anticipated to be mainly in the 85 to
90 degree range.

The humidity will create increasing instability in our region
today, with mixed layer CAPE values rising into the 1000 to 1500
J/kg range. Also, precipitable water values will likely rise
into the 2.00 to 2.25 inch neighborhood.

A mid level low is forecast to progress northeastward across
the eastern Great Lakes today and down the Saint Lawrence River
Valley tonight. The feature is expected to pull a short wave
trough toward our region from the west. The approaching short
wave moving into the moist unstable environment will likely
result in the development of showers and thunderstorms for this
afternoon into this evening. We will mention the potential for
locally heavy rainfall based on the high precipitable water
values. The increasing deep layer wind should result in the
potential for isolated strong wind gusts with any thunderstorms.
The Storm Prediction Center has our region in a marginal risk
for severe weather today.

The showers and thunderstorms are anticipated to pass off the
coast tonight as the axis of the mid level short wave passes
overhead. The wind should become westerly around 4 to 8 MPH.
Lows tonight are forecast to be mainly in the upper 60s and
lower 70s.

.SHORT TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT/...
Increasingly hot and very humid. A Heat Advisory for a part of
our region is quite possible for Wednesday.

An upper-level trough is forecast to cross the Mid-Atlantic
region during Tuesday. A trailing cold front from low pressure
moving into the vicinity of the Canadian Maritimes will be
reaching our coastal areas during Tuesday. This front looks to
stall nearby, however as the trough weakens and lifts out
through Tuesday night the flow aloft starts to turn more zonal
by early Wednesday morning. It will be a very warm to hot day
Tuesday, although the dew points should lower some in the
afternoon especially in the northern and central areas. This is
expected to keep heat indices well below any heat advisory
criteria. As the surface front lingers nearby, mainly near the
coastal locales and across Delmarva, some deeper moisture and
therefore better instability may result in a spotty shower or
thunderstorm. We will carry slight chance PoPs across parts of
our Delmarva zones as a result.

As we go through Wednesday, a lingering surface front in our
vicinity should be dissipating and the flow aloft is more zonal
for a time. While the surface dew points may lower a little
during peak heating, southwesterly surface winds will keep it on
the humid side. The dew point values will be critical in just
how high the heat indices get, as air temperatures are forecast
to be in the low to mid 90s for much of the area. As of now, a
Heat Advisory may be needed for mainly the I-95 urban corridor
with afternoon heat indices peaking right around 100 degrees.
Given a lack of any focused forcing, we are carrying a dry
forecast. It will be very warm and muggy Wednesday night, with
temperatures in the urban centers especially not dropping below
the upper 70s.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Summary...Extended period of hot and humid conditions;
Excessive heat headlines quite possible Thursday; A cold front
arrives Thursday into Friday with some convection, then this
front may linger nearby or dissipate through the weekend.

Synoptic Overview...An upper-level trough slides into the
Northeast Thursday into Friday, although the main part of this
feature looks to remain to our north and more into Canada. At
the surface, southwesterly flow ahead of a cold front will
continue to pump a hot and humid air mass across our region. The
cold front arrives Thursday, however it may tend to stall just
offshore Friday before shifting inland some over the weekend and
dissipating. Despite the cold front, an extended run of hot and
humid conditions are forecast.

For Thursday and Friday...An upper-level trough is forecast to
be sliding eastward across the Midwest and Great Lakes region.
This system is forecast to mostly lift more across adjacent
Canada and northern New England, with our area getting more
glanced from this. Given this northerly trend in the guidance,
we are more removed from the large scale forcing tied to the
main shortwave energy with the trough. However, a trailing cold
front is forecast to be crossing our area Thursday. Some showers
and thunderstorms should develop ahead of and with the front,
although much of this activity may lift to our north. Given
ample instability and moisture in place, there should still be
some potential for convection. As a result we did continue with
some chance PoPs. The heat may tend to peak Thursday as the hot
air surges in ahead of the cold front. Quite a bit of the area
looks to top out into the mid 90s Thursday, with even some upper
90s possible especially in the I-95 urban corridor. While it is
plausible that the dew points mix out a little for some spots
during peak heating, afternoon heat indices are forecast to be
mostly in the 100 to 105 degree range for many areas. A Heat
Advisory looks probable for many areas, with even an Excessive
Heat Watch/Warning possible for especially the urban I-95
corridor.

The cold front, or more like a dew point front, looks to stall
just offshore and across Delmarva Friday. Some low-level drying
should work in with the dew points currently forecast to lower
some Friday. It will be another hot day with low to mid 90s
forecast for highs, although with some lowering of the dew
points the heat indices will also be lower.

For Saturday and Sunday...Our region is forecast to be located
on the southern periphery of a Canadian upper-level trough
Saturday, then another upper-level trough sliding across the
Great Lakes should approach the Northeast later Sunday. The
stalled surface front from Friday may migrate inland some over
the weekend before dissipating. It will remain hot and humid
with afternoon highs once again in the low to mid 90s for most
locales. Depending on the dew points, which may remain just low
enough, afternoon heat indices for many areas may be very near
100 degrees again. There does not look to be any features of
note to kick off convection Saturday, with perhaps a storm near
a lingering front or terrain induced. On Sunday, the
aforementioned upper-level trough should be getting closer with
an eventual cold front approaching and that should introduce at
least some chance for convection.

.AVIATION /10Z MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Through 14Z...Mainly VFR with local MVFR conditions. Showers
lingering around KRDG and KABE. Variable wind 6 knots or less.
Medium confidence.

From 14Z until 00Z...Mainly VFR. Showers and thunderstorms are
forecast to develop and move into our region from the west
during the mid to late afternoon. The rain may become heavy at
times, and the thunderstorms will likely reduce conditions to
MVFR/IFR. Southwest wind 10 to 15 knots with gusts of 20 to 25
knots. Strong wind gusts in excess of 40 knots are possible with
any thunderstorms. Medium confidence.

Tonight...Showers and thunderstorms are expected this evening.
The rain may become heavy at times, and the thunderstorms will
likely reduce conditions to MVFR/IFR. Strong wind gusts in
excess of 40 knots are possible with any thunderstorms. The
precipitation is anticipated to move away to our east after
about 03Z, with mainly VFR conditions overnight. Southwest wind
around 10 knots, becoming west 5 to 10 knots. Medium confidence.

Outlook...

Tuesday...VFR. Westerly winds around 10 knots, becoming light
and variable at night. Moderate confidence.

Wednesday...VFR. South to southwest winds increasing to around
10 knots during the day, then diminishing some at night.
Moderate confidence.

Thursday...Some showers and thunderstorms possible, otherwise
VFR. Southwest winds 10-15 knots, becoming westerly 5-10 knots
at night. Low confidence.

Friday...VFR. Westerly winds 5-10 knots. Moderate confidence.

.MARINE...
A Small Craft Advisory remains in effect on our ocean waters
from 2:00 PM this afternoon until 8:00 AM Tuesday.

A south to southwest wind is forecast to increase to 15 to 20
knots today, with gusts around 25 knots on our ocean water. The
wind is expected to veer toward the southwest and west tonight
with speeds gradually diminishing to 10 to 15 knots.

Waves on our ocean waters are anticipated to build to 4 to 6
feet, with waves on Delaware Bay expected to be 1 to 3 feet.

Outlook...

Tuesday and Wednesday...The conditions are anticipated to be
below Small Craft Advisory criteria.

Thursday...A period of Small Craft Advisory conditions
possible, especially on the Atlantic coastal waters, due to
increasing south to southwest winds ahead of a cold front along
with building seas. Some showers and thunderstorms possible in
the afternoon and evening.

Friday...The conditions should be below Small Craft Advisory
criteria.

Rip Currents...

A southerly wind 10 to 15 MPH this morning is forecast to
increase to 15 to 20 MPH this afternoon along the coasts of
Delaware and New Jersey. Breaking waves are expected to build to
2 to 3 feet with a medium period southeast swell. We will
maintain the MODERATE risk for the development of dangerous rip
currents for today.

A southwest to south wind 10 to 15 MPH is expected for Tuesday.
Breaking waves should be around 2 feet with a medium period
southeast to south swell. There is a LOW risk of rip currents on
Tuesday.
