The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of 
  Central and southeastern South Dakota

* Effective this Thursday night and Friday morning from 930 PM
  until 300 AM CDT.

* Primary threats include...
  Scattered large hail and isolated very large hail events to 2
    inches in diameter possible
  Isolated damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible

SUMMARY...Supercells in northwestern South Dakota and southwestern
North Dakota could move into the western parts of the watch area in
central South Dakota before those storms weaken.  Additional
elevated thunderstorms will likely form farther southeast into
southeastern South Dakota through the early overnight hours.  The
strongest storms to the west will be capable of producing large hail
and damaging winds, while the elevated storms to the east will
primarily pose a threat for large hail.

The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 35
statute miles north and south of a line from 80 miles west northwest
of Pierre SD to 25 miles south southeast of Sioux Falls SD. For a

REMEMBER...A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are
favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area.
Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening
weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible
warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce
tornadoes.
