Mesoscale Discussion 2037
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0714 PM CST Wed Dec 15 2021

Areas affected...extreme southeast Kansas into portions of western
into central Missouri

Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 566...

Valid 160114Z - 160245Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 566
continues.

SUMMARY...A threat for damaging/severe gusts continues across Severe
Thunderstorm Watch 566 and is expected to continue for at least a
few more hours.

DISCUSSION...KEAX and MRMS mosaic radar data shows a broken squall
line of linear segments and transient supercell structures
continuing across extreme southeast KS into north-central MO.
Multiple severe gusts and wind damage reports have been received in
the past 1-2 hours, especially across far east KS. However,
deep-layer ascent in tandem with the surface low continue to rapidly
propagate northward, away from MO. Furthermore, the convective line
is gradually tracking eastward ahead of the axis of buoyancy/minimum
MLCINH, which may explain the gradual weakening convective/lightning
trends in the last hour. However, an impressive kinematic
environment remains ahead of the line and additional damaging/severe
gusts are still possible over the next few hours, and a 65+ kt gust
cannot be completely ruled out.
